STATEMENTS BY CARLOS FAVARO, MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE OF BRAZIL:

“EXPECTATIONS REMAIN HIGH WITH RESPECT TO THE SIGNING OF THIS AGREEMENT, WHICH WILL BE VERY GOOD FOR BRAZIL, MERCOSUR AND THE ENTIRE EUROPEAN COMMUNITY. WE HAVE NEVER HAD THIS PROTOCOL FORMALIZED.

“THE VAST MAJORITY OF EUROPEANS HAVE EXPRESSED INTEREST IN THE AGREEMENT. WE KNOW THAT, EVEN WITH FRENCH RESISTANCE, THEY WILL END UP BEING PRESSURED, EVEN BY MEMBERS OF THE BLOC INTERESTED IN FORMALIZATION. THEREFORE, THE EXPECTATION WITH REGARD TO THE FORMALIZATION (OF THE AGREEMENT).”

STATEMENTS BY ALEXANDRE SILVEIRA, BRAZILIAN MINISTER OF MINES AND ENERGY:

“I DON'T HAVE A VALUE STUDY YET. THERE ARE PRE-STUDIES OF THE THREE ROUTES, BUT THERE ARE NONE OF THE SHORTEST ONE AND IT HAS TO BE STUDIED, WHICH IS THE ROUTE THROUGH THE CHACO OF PARAGUAY, BECAUSE THE GOOD GAS STOPS AT THE BORDER BETWEEN PARAGUAY AND BOLIVIA AND ALREADY ENTERS THE LARGEST CONSUMER CENTER WHICH IS MATO GROSSO DO SUL.”

“THOSE WHO WANT TO LISTEN TO THEM MAKE MORE SPEECHES THAN GESTURES, BECAUSE IT IS A NECESSITY, IT IS THE REAL WORLD. THE REAL WORLD IS THE NEED TO SURVIVE. IN THESE DAYS WE SAVED A CITY IN ARGENTINA FROM EXTREME COLD, BECAUSE THERE WAS A LACK OF GASOLINE, A LACK OF ENERGY AND WE WERE ABLE TO HELP. SO THERE IS A DISCOURSE AND A REALITY OF FACTS.”
