Brazil hits mining on indigenous land by confiscating dozens of airplanes

Sao Paulo, Jan 31 (EFE), (Camera: Raphael Alves).- Brazilian authorities on Tuesday struck their first blow against illegal mining on indigenous lands by confiscating dozens of small planes used by gold prospectors, who have been accused of causing the humanitarian crisis affecting the Yanomami.

At least 24 planes seized by security forces were in custody Tuesday at the Federal Police yard in Boa Vista, capital of the Amazonian state of Roraima.
