BRAZIL MISSING PERSONS

Bolsonaro says human remains found during searches for missing persons

Recife (Brazil), Jun 13 (EFE) - Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro said Monday that "human viscera" were found in the region where the British journalist and the Brazilian indigenist disappeared in the Brazilian Amazon, amid growing confusion about the whereabouts of both.

The president assured that there are "indications" that illegal groups operating in the Amazon committed acts of "evil" against journalist Dom Phillips and indigenist Bruno Araújo, who disappeared a week ago in the Javari Valley, one of the most remote jungle regions of the country.

"Indications lead us to believe that they committed some evil against them. Human viscera were found floating in the river and have already been sent to Brasilia for DNA tests," Bolsonaro said in an interview with Radio CBN Recife, a regional station of the Globo network.

"And, because of the weather, we already have here eight, nine days, it will be very difficult to find them alive. I pray to God that they are found alive, but the indications lead to the contrary at the moment," Bolsonaro stressed, without referring to the information given by Phillips' wife about the discovery of two bodies in the region.
