Big Ben gets a new lease of life as it rejuvenates to keep marking time for Londoners

London (United Kingdom), Mar 29 (EFE) - (Camera: Guillermo Garrido) The Elizabeth Tower, universally known as Big Ben, looks as good as new after its restoration to continue its more than 160 years marking time to Londoners with the punctuality of Victorian engineering, as EFE verified in an exclusive visit to its bowels.

Almost 100 metres high and with spheres the size of a double-decker bus, its beauty and characteristic sound are now once again captivating the gaze of passers-by and cameras after five years of careful restoration.

"We're very proud of what we've achieved," Ian Westworth, the official clockmaker of the Great Clock in the engine room of London's iconic World Heritage tower, told EFE.

Westworth and his team ensure that 'Big Ben' - the name originally given to the main bell - wakes up from its slumber every hour on the hour, while its four sisters chime every quarter.
