Belem arrives in Marseille with Tokyo Olympic flame

Paris (France), May 8 (EFE/EPA) - The Belem, France's second largest sailing ship, arrived Wednesday off the coast of Marseille with the Olympic flame on board, after 12 days of sailing in the Mediterranean, to begin the torch's journey around France.

The three masts sighted the French coast early in the morning and will begin a festive stop that will last all day, in which a thousand boats and 150,000 people are expected to take part in the country's second city.

From there, the torch will begin a 79-day journey that will take it through 64 of the country's departments, including overseas, passing through the hands of 10,000 relay workers, before arriving in Paris on 26 July for the opening ceremony on the Seine.
