Beethoven's Ninth Symphony turns two centuries old

Vienna (Austria), May 5 (EFE) - A masterful, revolutionary, groundbreaking and iconoclastic masterpiece, Ludwig van Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, on Sunday considered the most classical of classical compositions, had its world premiere in Vienna exactly two centuries ago on Wednesday.

The German genius's ninth and last symphony is, according to experts, the most performed symphonic work on the planet, and will be even more so on this jubilee of its bicentenary.

Commissioned by the Philharmonic Society of London, the original score of the 'Symphony No. 9', opus 125, which is now in the custody of the Berlin State Library, was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2002.
