Bangladesh gov’t blames opposition, Islamist groups for violence during student protests

Dhaka, Jul 25 (EFE/EPA).- The government of Bangladesh on Thursday claimed the opposition and Islamist groups had infiltrated the recent student protests and had a hand in the increase in violence that sparked chaos in the country, leaving at least 176 dead and hundreds injured.

The student protest was peaceful at first, but as it progressed, several politically motivated sectors joined the students and turned the protest violent, according to a statement by the office of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. (Camera: MONIRUL ALAM).
