Amália Rodrigues' inmersive exhibition to open in Lisbon

Lisbon, Apr 30 (EFE) - The lesser-known facets of Amália Rodrigues, as a poet and actress, are revealed in a new immersive exhibition in Lisbon that seeks to rediscover Portugal's best-known voice in the year of the 25th anniversary of her death.

The exhibition 'Ah, Amália', installed in the Marvila neighbourhood and created by the Amália Rodrigues Foundation and the production company SP Entertainment, will open on Wednesday and invites visitors to a journey through the life of the "queen of fado"

"This is the main objective. Amália was well known for her voice, for her genius in singing fado, but the truth is that she didn't only sing fado. She also sang Mexican rancheras and Italian songs. And then she has a series of facets that are not known to the general public. She was a poet, she wrote a book of poems. She did theatre, she made films. She was a personality, and as a woman she was very ahead of her time, very supportive, very friendly to others. With this exhibition, we wanted to show the Portuguese and the tourists who visit us the different facets of Amália and the great dimension she had as a person."

CUCA ROSETA, FADO SINGER:

"Amália is my great inspiration as a fado singer. I followed in her footsteps as a singer. And Amália opened doors for me and for the fado singers who sing all over the world. Nowadays, in all the countries we go to, for foreigners, I think it was without a doubt Amália who opened that door for me, and at a time when it was much more difficult to travel and conquer the public compared to today. Because now everything is much easier. But Amália, for me, is an inspiration as a woman, as the woman she was. She was a great woman, not just a great singer, she was a great poet with a great sensitivity, irreverent, way ahead of her time. A woman who was free to be herself, following her intuition and, in the end, fulfilling an extraordinary mission and a gigantic contribution that she left for our country and that will be eternal."
