ARGENTINA CHILE COUP

Buenos Aires commemorates Chilean victims of dictatorships with new monument

Buenos Aires, Sep 5 (EFE).- A decade passed between the disappearance/death of Néstor Castillo Sepúlveda (23 years old) and Sauro Antonio Obreque (15), during which the tragic stories of 99 other Chileans were also narrated.

All of these individuals vanished or met their end in Argentina amidst the dictatorships that cast a shadow over the Southern Cone during the 1970s and 1980s.

A monument outside the Chilean Embassy in Buenos Aires now stands as a solemn testament to these 101 Chileans who were detained, disappeared, or executed for political reasons between 1973 and 1983.

Inaugurated this past Tuesday by representatives from both nations, the ceremony drew the presence of the victims' families and human rights advocates. (Camera: MARÍA C. MARTÍN).
