Aguas Dulces: from lost loot of Arinos to a treasure trove of gastronomy

Aguas Dulces (Uruguay), Apr 15 (EFE)(Camera: Santiago Carbone) - Arazá red or yellow, butiá and guayabo del país. These three fruits are part of the natural treasure that can be tasted in Aguas Dulces, a small town in southeastern Uruguay, wherein 1875 the Portuguese ship Arinos was shipwrecked and left its booty forever turned into a legend.

Those gold coins that the ship was carrying between Rio de Janeiro and Montevideo and that, according to various sources, were linked to the financing of the War of the Triple Alliance (1864-1870), were left forever -or not- on one of the countless beaches of the Uruguayan department (province) of Rocha.
