IVORY COAST FESTIVAL

Abidji village celebrates Dipri festival in Sikensi, Ivory Coast

Sinkesi (Ivory Coast), April 13 (EFE).- Ivorians celebrated the Dipri festival this Saturday in Sikensi, southeast of Ivory Coast.

The Dipri, also known as the "blood festival", is a traditional festival of the Abidji people, belonging to the Akan ethnic group, which commemorates the sacrifice made by an ancestor to save them from famine.

During the celebration, some participants, supposedly guided by spirits, cut themselves with a knife or insert blades into their skin, and then cure themselves with poultices of raw eggs and herbs. Dipri is also characterized by ritual animal sacrifices.
