More than 460 African migrants rescued off coast of Spain's Canary Islands

Las Palmas, Spain, Jun 6 (EFE).- Over 460 African migrants were rescued early Thursday morning off the coast of the Canary Islands, Spain’s coast guard said.

The migrants, who had set off from west Africa, were trying to reach Spanish soil in four small, precarious boats.

According to a spokeswoman for Salvamento Maritimo (Spain’s coast guard), the fourth boat to be rescued had 44 people on board – 39 men, 3 women and 2 children – all of whom are from sub-Saharan Africa, who were drifting between the islands of Tenerife and La Gomera.
