ECUADOR PROTESTS

100 million dollars in losses in non-oil export sector Ecuador

Quito, Jul 23 (EFE), (Camera: Juan Francisco Chávez) - The Ecuadorian Federation of Exports (Fedexpor) estimates losses in the country's non-oil export sector at US$100 million as a result of the indigenous protests last June against the high cost of living, which lasted 18 days.

During the three weeks of protests, in which six people died and which were characterized by road blockades and roadblocks, public and private property was also damaged.

Statements made by Felipe Ribadeneira, president of Fedexpor: "We have the losses of the strike, which amounted to US$100 million and were generated in the export sector alone. In terms of the country's overall economy, we are talking about more than US$ 1 billion in tourism, trade, etc.".
