JERUSALEM, May 14 (EFE/EPA).— More than 200 activists from the Israeli-Palestinian peace movement Standing Together deployed across Jerusalem’s Old City on Thursday to try to prevent attacks by Israeli radicals during the annual Flag March marking Jerusalem Day.

The march commemorates Israel’s 1967 occupation of East Jerusalem and has frequently drawn tensions and clashes in the historic city.

“We are here to protect those whom the government and police have decided to abandon,” said Standing Together co-director Alon-Lee Green in a statement. (Camera: MADGA GIBELLI).

Jerusalem, May 14 (EFE/EPA).- Hundreds of Jewish ultranationalists, most of them teenagers, gathered in the Old City on Thursday for “Jerusalem Day,” marking the 59th anniversary of Israel’s occupation of East Jerusalem following the Six-Day War, while chanting extremist slogans such as “Death to the Arabs” and “May their villages burn.”

The event, also known as the “Flag March,” is expected to bring together tens of thousands of religious Zionists, ultranationalists, and settlers who, as in previous years, will march through the Muslim Quarter of the Old City, where Palestinians—who make up nearly 40% of Jerusalem’s population—have reported insults, harassment, and spitting incidents.
