Former Spain's ambassador to Venezuela Raul Morodo sits on the bench at the National Court in Madrid, Spain, where a trial begins against him, his son Alejo Morodo and his daughter-in-law Ana Catalina Varandas for alleged laundering of around 4.5 million euros from Venezuela's state-run oil company PDVSA, 14 October 2024. The investigation leading to the trial focused on the period between 2008-2013, shortly after Morodo ended a three-year stint as ambassador in Venezuela. The three accused are suspected of producing false invoices for work that was never completed and laundering money through accounts in Panama and other Latin American countries.
