Protest in Rabat calls for release of Islamist detainees on 2003 attacks anniversary
RABAT (Morocco), 16/05/2026.- Supporters of the Joint Committee for the Defense of Islamist Detainees take part in a protest, coinciding with the 23rd anniversary of the Casablanca suicide bombings, in Rabat, Morocco, 16 May 2026. The Casablanca suicide bombings, among the deadliest in Morocco's history, were carried out by 12 suicide bombers at five different locations across the city on 16 May 2003. In the aftermath of the attacks, Moroccan authorities passed an anti-terrorism law and conducted a massive security sweep, resulting in the arrest of thousands of individuals.
