ESPAÑA ARMADA MONUMENTO

GRA171. MADRID, 15/11/2014.- El rey Juan Carlos, conversa con el escultor Salvador Amaya (i), autor del monumento en recuerdo al teniente general de la Armada Blas de Lezo, durante la inauguración de la obra, en los jardines del Descubrimiento de la plaza de Colón de Madrid. La escultura se ha hecho por suscripción popular y a iniciativa de la Asociación Monumento a Blas de Lezo, a semejanza de otras estatuas de la capital como la del Rey Alfonso XII, Colón o Espartero. SPAIN ARMY:Spanish former King Juan Carlos (R) chats with sculptor Salvador Amaya (L) during the inauguration act of the lieutenant general Armada Blas de Lezo's sculpture held at the gardens of Colon's Square in Madrid, Spain on 15 November 2014. Armada Blas de Lezo was a Spanish sailor of the XVIII century whose nick name was the 'halfman' because he was one-legged, one-handed and one-eyed due to battle injures. According to historians he never lost a battle, the most important one was at Cartagena de Indias in 1741 when he drove back the British navy and keep this important spot in Latinamerica. The sculpture describe him before he loses his arm and his eye. EFE/Angel Diaz
