Ancient structure associated with astronomy discovered in the oldest culture in the Americas

LIMA (Peru), 20/04/2026.- A handout photo made available by the Caral Archaeological Zone, Executing Unit 003 of the Ministry of Culture, shows a two-level circular structure linked to astronomy and sea observation, at the fishing settlement of Aspero in Peru, issued 20 April 2026. The ancient structure in the fishing settlement of Aspero, which is part of Peru's ancient Caral civilisation, was discovered by Peruvian archaeologist Dr. Ruth Shady's research team and is believed to date back to 2000 BC. The site was probably used by specialists to record astronomical phenomena and their relationship with the natural environment.
