Victims in Panama of mass syrup poisoning call compensation insufficient
Panama City, April 28 (EFE).– The first compensations, of $25,000, awarded years ago to victims of the mass poisoning in Panama with a syrup produced by the social security system between 2004 and 2006, which left hundreds dead, are insufficient and fail to address the reality of these people who survive with long-term effects, many of them serious.This was stated to EFE by Gabriel Pascual, president of the Committee of Families for the Right to Health and Life (COFADESAVI), an association that represents the victims and promises to take the case to international bodies in search of justice.CAMERA: CARLOS LEMOS.FOOTAGE OF GABRIEL PASCUAL, PRESIDENT OF THE COMMITTEE OF FAMILIES FOR THE RIGHT TO HEALTH AND LIFE (COFADESAVI); AND OF ONE OF THE HOSPITALS WHERE THE SYRUP WAS DISTRIBUTED AND WHERE PATIENTS WERE TREATED.
