Traditional St. Fiacre procession in Tarcienne, Belgium

Tarcienne (Belgium), May 5 (EFE/EPA) - The Belgian town of Tarcienne on Sunday hosted the traditional procession in honour of Saint Fiacre, which marks the opening of the folk marching season in the Entre-Sambre-et-Meuse region of southwest Belgium.

UNESCO has recognised the processions of l'Entre-Sambre-et-Meuse as intangible cultural heritage. Participants dress in historical costumes of soldiers from the second Napoleonic era, commemorating the agreement reached by Napoleon I and Pope Pius VII in 1802 to authorise the processions after the French Revolution.
