CENTRAL AMERICAN AND CARIBBEAN GAMES

Steffy Aradillas, the Mexican softball player who turned "you play like a girl" into a compliment

San Salvador, July 6 (EFE).- When Stefanía Aradillas (Mexico City, 28 years old) began playing baseball at the age of four she knew that the cries of parents saying "be careful with the girl" were, more than an insult, a compliment.

Statements by Steffy Aradillas, Mexican softball player: As a child I remember that just before this event there was a national event where they gave us accreditations and they gave out everyone's and mine wasn't there. So my coach said: "Why isn't it there? "No, it didn't arrive". Well, I'm not leaving here until it's not here and it turns out that someone had kept it inside their shirt so they wouldn't give it to me and so I wouldn't play.

A bad experience of a competition where they tell me you can't practice baseball, you can't go to a World Cup to represent your country, because you are a woman.

I love it when little girls, little boys, tell me: "my school project was about the person who motivates you the most and you were my presentation topic". Or they give me drawings of me playing or on the podium or cards, I mean, those are the moments when I say "Wow, what a great career I have built". I like to share that, I like to share stories of sportswomen, of women who are doing well.
