Scandals, leadership crisis test Japan's ruling party ahead of election

Tokyo, Oct 25 (EFE/EPA).- Despite a series of scandals and a leadership crisis, Japan's conservative Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) remains the favourite to retain power in next Sunday's election.

The party, currently led by newly elected Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, is struggling with the repercussions of past cabinet mistakes and rising public distrust due to various scandals.

After taking office, Ishiba called an early general election for this Sunday, seeking the support of the Japanese population and giving the opposition little time to prepare a unified alternative. (Camera: FRANCK ROBICHON).
