Masoud Pezeshkian, the moderate candidate, wanted to open up the country, while Saeed Jalili, the ultra-conservative candidate, opposed Western influence.This second round happened after both candidates received the most votes in the first round last Friday. This election had the lowest turnout in the 45-year history of the country, with only 39.9% of people voting.
