Mexican transgender athlete clinches historic jiu-jitsu championship

Puebla, Jun 18 (EFE).- Mazikeen Castillo, a transgender athlete, has become the first trans woman in Mexico to win the title of Brazilian jiu-jitsu champion in the women's division, breaking down barriers faced by people from the LGBTQ+ community in professional sport.

Hailing from the central Mexican state of Puebla and passionate about martial arts, Castillo has set out to pave the way for future generations of transgender athletes in a sporting landscape that offers few opportunities for the LGBTQ+ community. (Camera: GABRIELA GARCÍA GUZMÁN).
