Mexican president apologizes to Banxico for announcing interest rate increase early | Video

Acapulco, Mar 24 (EFE).- The Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, offered an apology Thursday to the governor of the Bank of Mexico (Banxico), Victoria Rodríguez Ceja, after he announced the monetary decision of the central bank hours ahead of schedule.

Mexican Central Bank decided to raise its benchmark interest to 6.5 percent Thursday night.

"I want to offer an apology to the governor of the Bank of Mexico and the deputy governors because I received the information last night that they had made the decision to increase the rate to 6.5 percent," said the president at the opening of the 85th Banking Convention in Acapulco.
