Merz announces “historic” public health reform

Berlin, Apr 29 (EFE).- German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced on Wednesday a “historic” reform of the German public healthcare system, involving cuts and measures across multiple areas totaling at least 15 billion euros, with the aim of preventing an increase in premiums.

After weeks of negotiations among coalition partners, the conservative leader presented the compromise reached by the cabinet today at a press conference in Berlin alongside Health Minister Nina Warken, as an alternative to the initial plan to save up to 19 billion euros.
