MEXICO RAINFALL

Heavy rains create natural springs in Mexico's Riviera Maya

Cancun, Jul 2 (EFE).- Heavy rains in recent weeks on the Yucatan Peninsula have led to the appearance of numerous natural water springs along the coast of Playa del Carmen in Mexico's Riviera Maya.

According to the local Civil Protection Department, a dozen water springs have appeared, most of which pose no risk to the public.

These water formations, common in the Caribbean, occur when underground rivers channel rainwater into the sea, allowing fresh water to emerge. (Camera: LOURDES CRUZ).
