WHO: energy crisis in Cuba delays 100,000 surgeries, increases risk of dengue and malaria

Havana, May 15 (EFE).- The World Health Organization (WHO) reported on Friday that the energy crisis affecting Cuba has already delayed 100,000 surgeries and is increasing the risk of diseases such as dengue, malaria, and chikungunya.

"Fuel has a direct impact on public health risk," stated Altaf Musani, director of humanitarian and disaster management in WHO's Health Emergencies Programme, during the daily press briefing of the UN Secretary-General's spokesperson, where he spoke after visiting the island.
