Chilean Foreign Minister: “We are united in building a better future for both our peoples”

La Paz, April 24 (EFE).– The foreign ministers of Bolivia, Fernando Aramayo, and Chile, Francisco Pérez Mackenna, announced this Friday that they will work to “deepen ties” and build a “better future,” after meeting with business leaders in the city of Santa Cruz (eastern Bolivia) to discuss bilateral trade relations.

Statement by Bolivian Foreign Minister Fernando Aramayo:

Very well, we understand, then, with commitment, that the agenda of both countries, together with their private sectors, can allow both Chilean and Bolivian business leaders, working alongside their governments, to usher in a new era that allows us to position ourselves in this new globalized world, which demands challenges and appropriate responses. We have discussed aspects that are not traditional. In addition to the importance of improving our trade and our border customs relationship, we discussed the challenges associated with participating in these technological innovations, adopting them as a sector, and also as a solution to boost trade between our two countries. Many topics were covered. You have witnessed the broad agenda we addressed yesterday, which today focused specifically on the business dimension.

If Chile does well, Bolivia does well, and if Bolivia does well, Chile does well. We are united in building a better future for both our peoples, in an increasingly complex world. This is doubly important, so we will work together not only to develop the opportunities we have identified, but also to address some shortcomings we have also identified; we are not doing everything perfectly. We have obviously been able to discover things that will be great opportunities for the future, but we have also discussed problems that we face today and that we need to solve. We will solve them together, we will solve them through dialogue, we will solve them by visiting each other in La Paz, in Santa Cruz, and also in Santiago.
