Brain electrodes free Tourette patient from severe tics in Spain

Barcelona, Spain, Apr 22 (EFE).- A 21-year-old patient with Tourette syndrome has regained a normal life after undergoing a brain stimulation procedure at Barcelona’s Hospital de Sant Pau, where neurologists implanted electrodes to control his severe motor and vocal tics.

The patient, identified as Josep, said he can now study and socialize again after years of debilitating symptoms that did not respond to previous treatments.

"I had an enormous number of physical and verbal tics and was unable to live a normal life,” explained Josep, a pseudonym chosen by the 21-year-old patient, who prefers to remain anonymous due to the stigma associated with this severe condition. (Camera: EFE).
