GREEN ECONOMY FORUM

EFE hosts 3rd Latin American Green Economy Forum in São Paulo

São Paulo, Sep 3 (EFE).- Agencia EFE will hold the third edition of the Latin American Green Economy Forum (FLEV) on Thursday in São Paulo, a space for dialogue and analysis on the challenges of sustainable development in the region.

The forum brings together representatives from the public and private sectors, academia, and civil society. It comes just two months before the United Nations Climate Conference (COP30), scheduled for November in Belém, in the heart of the Amazon.

EFE president Miguel Ángel Oliver stressed that, by preceding COP30, the FLEV “becomes a strategic prelude to analyze proposals, build alliances, and lead a glocal ecological transition.”

“The third edition of the FLEV, organized with great responsibility by Agencia EFE, is consolidating, at a key moment for the region and the planet, as a privileged space for dialogue, so necessary in these times of polarization, denialism, and disinformation,” Oliver said. He will deliver the opening remarks.

The debates set to take place in Belém will permeate the FLEV program and feature in a video address at the opening by COP30 executive director Ana Toni.

The forum will include five thematic panels focusing on issues such as energy transition and decarbonization, forest management, sustainable agriculture, water and waste management, and the carbon market and green bonds.

A new feature in this edition is a participatory segment that will allow ordinary citizens from across Latin America to submit questions on climate change, clean energy, and financing an inclusive green economy to a panel of experts.

Among those responding will be Manuel Pulgar-Vidal, former Peruvian environment minister, global climate and energy lead at WWF International, and one of the architects of the Paris Agreement, as well as Claudio Providas, the UNDP resident representative in Brazil.

Also participating will be Márcio Astrini, executive secretary of the Climate Observatory, Brazil’s leading civil society network dedicated to environmental protection.

In addition, the forum will feature short informational segments produced by Efeverifica, EFE’s fact-checking unit, aimed at debunking harmful myths about climate change.

The 3rd FLEV is sponsored by ApexBrasil, Brazil’s trade and investment promotion agency; Norte Energia, operator of the Belo Monte hydroelectric plant; and Lots Group, a logistics company focused on decarbonization solutions.

It is also supported by Imaflora, the Climate Observatory, and IBMEC University, which is hosting the event at its São Paulo campus. EFE
