Astana, Sep 23 (EFE).- More than 155,000 fans applied Tuesday for tickets to see Kazakh side Kairat face Real Madrid in their upcoming Champions League match, overwhelming demand that briefly crashed the club’s website.
Within the first 90 minutes of sales, over 155,000 supporters tried to secure seats for the Sept. 30 game in Almaty, far exceeding the 23,800 capacity of Kairat’s stadium.
The cheapest ticket is priced at 30,000 tenge (about $55), while the most expensive goes for 250,000 tenge (around $450).
The game marks Kairat’s first-ever home fixture in the Champions League. The Kazakh champions made their debut in the competition last week with a 4–1 loss to Sporting Lisbon.
The massive demand reflects both the popularity of Real Madrid, record 14-time European champions, and the historic nature of Kairat’s participation in Europe’s elite tournament. EFE
