Hospital damaged in Israeli attack on south of Beirut will continue operating due to health collapse

Photograph of the collapsed building and surrounding areas destroyed by an Israeli attack launched last night in the southern suburbs of Beirut, in front of the Rafic Hariri Public Hospital, Lebanon, 22 October 2024. The Lebanese authorities stated this Tuesday that the Rafic Hariri hospital, located on the outskirts of Beirut, suffered "serious damage" in an Israeli bombardment the day before but that it will continue to operate due to the collapse of the health system in the damaged southern suburbs of the capital. "We are working at our maximum capacity despite all the damage. The hospital will not be evacuated and we will continue working," the center's director, Yihad Saadeh, said in a press conference from the hospital, adding that "the material damage is extensive."
