TAIWAN TYPHOON

Weakening Typhoon Mawar approaches southern Japan

New Taipei City, May 31 (EFE/EPA).- Super Typhoon Mawar, which caused significant damage in Guam with torrential rains and destructive winds last week, has begun to lose intensity as it moves northeast towards Taiwan and southern Japan.

After a devastating impact on Guam, where it wreaked havoc with high wind speeds and torrential rains, Mawar has begun to slow down. Weather experts tracking the typhoon's path are optimistic and report that the once super typhoon has begun to weaken considerably.

The storm's movement was evident in New Taipei City, Taiwan, where people were seen disembarking from a ferry on 31 May 2023. Although Mawar continues to pose a threat, the decrease in its intensity provides a glimmer of hope for the regions of Taiwan and southern Japan that were preparing for its arrival.

Although the super typhoon has weakened, authorities in Taiwan and Japan remain vigilant. They continue to monitor Mawar's evolution closely and are preparing to take the necessary measures to ensure the safety of their residents. (Camera: RITCHIE B. TONGO).
