Veteran opposition figures demand end of Kais Saied's autocracy

Tunisia, April 1 (EFE).- (Camera: Natalia Román Morte) The Tunisians Ezzedine Hezgui and Issa Ibrahim Ben Hoggui know the "high price" of political activism after being persecuted and imprisoned when they were young. Several decades later, they are militating against the concentration of powers of President Kais Saied and for the release of their children, Jaouhar Ben Mbarek and Chaima Issa, two prominent opposition leaders.

-Ezzedine Hezgui, imprisoned during the Habib Bourguiba period: "Coup d'état, disseminating false information, belonging to an unrecognized organization... It's exactly the same, a copy and paste. This is what this coup plotter accusses them for. I was sentenced on the same charges as Jaouhar."

-Issa Ibrahim Ben Hoggui, imprisoned during the Ben Ali period: "He wants a civil war. We do not want that life, that is why he has put us in prison. If there is a civil war he will stay another 30 years. This is so."
