Latvian team celebrates bronze at Ice Hockey World Championship

Riga (Latvia), May 29 (EFE).- (Camera: Toms Kalnins) The Latvian ice hockey team's bronze medal won yesterday in Tampere (Finland) has sparked celebrations in the Baltic country, which has declared an impromptu holiday on Monday, sowing chaos among citizens.

The Latvian national team defeated the United States 4-3 in the World Ice Hockey Championships on Sunday, after surprise victories over the Czech Republic and Sweden.

A midnight decision by the Latvian parliament to declare Monday a public holiday has turned national euphoria into anger, after many parents found kindergartens closed this morning and appointments in the health system and administration cancelled.
