INDONESIA VACCINATION

Indonesia conducts large-scale vaccination against rabies

Jakarta, May 30 (EFE/EPA).- In Jakarta, Indonesia, local health authorities took the initiative to carry out a major rabies vaccination initiative for companion animals on Tuesday.

Recognising the urgent need to combat the country's high rabies rate, veterinarians have been actively implementing proactive measures. This initiative specifically targets cats, which are often affected by the disease, as part of a wider effort to address the worrying statistics.

According to the World Health Organisation, rabies causes around 59,000 deaths a year worldwide, with a case fatality rate of almost 100 percent. Indonesian government figures indicate that the country experiences between 100 and 156 rabies-related deaths annually, highlighting the severity of the public health problem.
