BOLIVIA ART

Braids and their meaning inspire a Bolivian artist

La Paz, Jun 25 (EFE), (Camera: Yolanda Salazar) - The braids of women and men from different cultures in Bolivia are the inspiration for artist Julio César Escobar, who is exhibiting twenty paintings that show the "invisible connections" that are formed when one person touches the hair of another.

Such an everyday moment as combing one's hair becomes a space of trust between women when a mother grabs her daughter's locks of hair and begins to intertwine them, a practice that is often passed from generation to generation.

STATEMENTS BY JULIO CÉSAR ESCOBAR, ARTIST:

This project is about being able to see, to express a little bit everything that braids mean as a weaving in our culture, a living element that transcends borders and time.
