Tourism, civil aviation and energy, priorities for Spain-Kazakhstan cooperation

Astana, Sep 27 (EFE).- Tourism, civil aviation, and energy are some of the priorities of cooperation between Spain and Kazakhstan, topics discussed between Kazakh Deputy Foreign Minister Roman Vassilenko and the new Spanish ambassador to Kazakhstan, Luis Francisco Martinez.

“During the conversation, they discussed the schedule of upcoming visits and the implementation of bilateral agreements reached as a result of negotiations between the foreign ministers of the two countries in the framework of the 79th edition of the UN General Assembly,” according to a statement released at the end of a meeting.

In Kazakhstan, considered Central Asia’s economic engine, Spanish giants such as Inditex, Maxam, Glovo, and Talgo currently operate.

For example, Talgo trains link the country's two main cities, Astana and Almaty.

The largest republic in Central Asia also has high expectations for the polyethylene facility in the Atyrau region (west of the country). Spain’s Técnicas Reunidas and China’s Sinopec, on behalf of Kazakhstan's KazMunayGas, is to jointly carry out the project

According to the Kazakh Foreign Ministry, Spain is one of the country's most important economic partners in the European Union.

Bilateral trade between the nations amounted to $2 billion in 2023 and $1.1 billion in the first six months of this year. EFE
