Tokyo, Sep 27 (EFE).- Shigeru Ishiba was elected the new leader of Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) on Friday, and is expected to become the country’s new prime minister once ratified by the National Diet (parliament).

Ishiba, born in 1957 and former Minister of Defence, secured the party’s support in the second round of votes in the internal elections of the LDP held at its headquarters of this force in Tokyo, and is now to succeed Fumio Kishida as the head of the government. (Camera: HANDOUT).
