NEW YORK, Nov 4 (EFE).— Democrat Zohran Mamdani won Tuesday’s New York City mayoral election with more than 50 percent of the vote, according to projections from AP, CNN, and NBC News.

At 34, Mamdani will become the youngest mayor of New York since 1892 and the city’s first Muslim leader, after defeating independent Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa, with 80 percent of ballots counted.

It is also the first time since 1969 that voter turnout in the city has exceeded two million.According to preliminary results, Mamdani secured 50.5 percent of the vote, followed by Cuomo with 41.3 percent and Sliwa with 7.3 percent. (Camera: ÁNGEL COLMENARES).
